The highlight of The Debate Club's year is unquestionably its annual debating event, The Bait. The inaugural event in 2010 was an astounding success with eminent judges, enthusiastic participants and awe-struck audience appreciating the planning and quality of the two-day event. This year, The Bait '11 will be conducted on the 21st and 22nd of July with plans of making it bigger and better.
With a wide reach and lasting impact within its target audience, the youth of the country, The Bait aims to provoke ideas and encourage stimulating thought processes, thereby nourishing the intrinsic passion for change in each individual, to wake up dormant grey cells and get them intrigued and to be a platform for the young and active, the passionate and outspoken, the spokesperson in every participant.
Through this project, the organizers of The Bait hope to encourage young minds to think about problems facing them, and the world at large. With debating taking the student community by storm in the global scenario, The Bait hopes to be the first step into making India a global debating hub and Indian students a debating authority to reckon with, a force of intellectual thinkers on par with the best in the world. During the course of the event, the organizers intend to inculcate in all involved students the spirit of inquiry, and liberalism, to break barriers and defy stereotypes. By debating over various topics, The Bait helps to identify the spots of grey in what is often perceived as a world of black and white. The Bait however, is not the end, as is often perceived at the end of the two-day event, but a mere means towards a better tomorrow.
